DDF Suffolk: Our Accomplishments

What have we achieved so far?

Since we were formed we have raised over £500,000.

The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust has a fine Endoscopy Suite which has been assisted on many occasions by funds donated by us.

Our current fundraising  goal is to purchase Spyglass Endoscopy Equipment

Baskets Baskets for use in endoscopy so that patients can put their clothes and belongings into after getting changed for their endoscopic procedure
This Fridge freezer for Stradbroke ward, The Ipswich Hospital, allows to chill drinks and make ‘slush puppies’, ice lollies or ice cubes for IBD patients who struggle to tolerate oral supplements unless well chilled

This video on how to prepare for a colonoscopy, proofed very useful for patients in preparation for their procedure.

The whole project was entirely funded by us

Capsule endoscopy is a way to record images of the digestive tract for use in medicine. The capsule is the size and shape of a pill and contains a tiny camera. After a patient swallows the capsule, it takes pictures of the inside of the gastrointestinal tract.

The primary use of capsule endoscopy is to examine areas of the small intestine that cannot be seen by other types of endoscopy such as colonoscopy or gastroscopy

Fibroscan, also called transient elastography, is a technique used to assess liver stiffness (measured in kPa correlated to fibrosis) without invasive investigation. The result is immediate, it shows the condition of the liver and allows physicians to diagnose and monitor disease evolution in conjunction with treatment and collateral factors. Exam results help to anticipate various complications, as well as to monitor and assess the damage caused by conditions such as cirrhosis.

The FibroScan examination is painless, quick and easy. During measurement, you feel a slight vibration on the skin at the tip of the probe

This Ultrasound machine is used for placement of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC lines). The vein in the upper arm is located using ultrasound, which has great improved success rates of PICC line insertions.

The lines can then be used for TPN, IV fluids, antibiotics, taking blood for patients that require longer term IV, or have poor venous access.

This Water Irrigation machine enables the endoscopist to flush and clean the GI tract with water during endoscopic procedures. This improves visualisation of the lining of the gut and therefore increases the ability to detect  pathology and aid the application of any therapy that may need to be applied during an endoscopic procedure.

Argon plasma coagulation or APC is a medical endoscopic procedure used primarily to control bleeding from certain lesions in the gastrointestinal tract, and also sometimes to debulk tumours in the case of patients for whom surgery is not recommended. It is administered during gastroscopy or colonoscopy
